Why Consider Pulumi Alternatives?
Pulumi's programming-language approach is powerful, but teams with infrastructure-focused backgrounds may prefer Terraform's declarative HCL. Organizations heavily invested in AWS may choose AWS CDK for deeper AWS integration. Kubernetes-native teams may find Crossplane more aligned with their platform.
Terraform
Terraform is the primary alternative, offering a larger provider ecosystem (3,900+ providers) and more mature state management. HCL is simpler for non-programmers. Terraform's community and module registry are significantly larger. The BSL license may be a concern for some organizations.
AWS CDK
AWS CDK is the best alternative for AWS-centric organizations. It also uses familiar programming languages but is limited to AWS resources. CDK's high-level constructs provide AWS best practices out of the box. It is free with no state management costs.
Crossplane
Crossplane is the Kubernetes-native alternative. It runs inside a K8s cluster and uses CRDs to represent infrastructure resources. Crossplane is ideal for platform teams building internal developer platforms who already run Kubernetes.
